Hand-Drawn Wallpaper and Surface Patterns, Thoughtfully Made for Real Homes

Willow & Woods is my British wallpaper design studio, named after the middle names of my children. It represents both family and craft – a commitment to creating hand-drawn designs that bring warmth, depth and quiet character into the home.

Every pattern I create carries something of my surroundings, and the quiet moments that make a house feel like home.

The Artist Behind the Studio

I’m Katie, founder of Willow & Woods, a British surface pattern and wallpaper designer with a studio rooted in hand-drawn craft, heritage and storytelling.

Each design begins by hand, with pencil or paint, inspired by nature, history, and family moments. From first sketch, carefully developed in the studio, my motifs are then transformed into a repeating design before being printed to order. The process is deliberate and thoughtful, giving every pattern warmth, depth, and life.

I create wallpaper designed to feel lived-in, layered and enduring.

Willow & Woods was founded on a simple belief: that wallpaper should do more than decorate a wall, it should shape how a space feels.

How It Began

MY JOURNEY AS A SURFACE PATTERN & WALLPAPER DESIGNER

I began my creative career designing bespoke albums and memory books for clients through my businesses, And Other Memories and Life of Sprout. It was in arranging end papers and patterns that a long-dormant love of drawing was quietly rekindled.

Hidden in plain sight, I found surface pattern design – a way to combine creativity, craft, and story. The joy of building a pattern reignited a creative spark that had been quiet since my school years.

Before founding Willow & Woods, I spent several years in television production, where I learned the power of story, detail, and atmosphere – skills that continue to quietly inform the way I design today.

Craft & Heritage

A Heritage of Creativity

I grew up surrounded by art, design and historic detail, an upbringing that continues to shape the way I approach pattern.

Drawing on a rich artistic heritage and Britain’s decorative traditions, my designs aim to feel familiar yet considered. They are created to endure beyond passing trends – made for homes that gather character over time.

Inspired by generations of creativity within my family and a belief that art should be lived with, not kept behind glass, Willow & Woods brings timeless design to life – one brushstroke at a time. I aim to honour traditional artistry while bringing a fresh, contemporary perspective.

In the Sketchbook

I love to draw and paint flowers, birds, animals, boats, and abstract shapes – motifs that carry both movement and story. Watercolour is my favourite medium, with its subtle shifts in tone and texture bringing depth to every brushstroke.

Nature, travel and everyday life, from coastal walks to quiet family afternoons, continually shape my work, and as a result, each pattern carries a quiet sense of story.

My aim is always the same: to design wallpapers that feel personal, layered and enduring – something that grows with you and your space.

Studio Values

I believe in creating designs that endure, patterns that feel as meaningful years from now as they do today. For me, longevity is as important as beauty.

I believe that art work is meant to be lived with.

Sustainability is important. Each wallpaper is hand-drawn, then carefully digitised and printed to order in the UK using FSC-certified paper and eco-friendly inks.

Producing only what is needed allows the studio to minimise waste while maintaining quality and craftsmanship.

Supporting small businesses, sourcing responsibly, and designing with intention are central to Willow & Woods. I aim to create products that bring joy, comfort, and warmth, while respecting people, place, and planet.

Life Beyond the Studio

When I’m not drawing, you’ll usually find me walking along the coast or countryside with my family, or braving a sea swim. These outdoor moments – rain or shine, shifting skies, weathered textures, quiet pauses – often return later as colours, compositions or motifs.

In a quiet moment you can find me curled up with a good book and getting lost in the world it creates. With three young children, quiet moments are rare – which perhaps makes them all the more meaningful.

These moments feed my creativity and inspire the designs I make, giving every pattern a quiet sense of story and life.

In the Studio

A moment in my life as a surface pattern designer

Behind every Willow & Woods design is a sketchbook, a paintbrush and always a cup of tea! Much of my inspiration comes from the quiet details of everyday life – a walk by the coast, an old garden, a treasured interior or a pattern spotted in nature.

What begins as a pencil sketch or painting is carefully developed into a repeat pattern, designed to bring warmth, character and lasting beauty into the home.
